Maggie was my first Jack and she taught me to be humble. I knew little of her breeding stock and she was typical of the old stereotypical nasty Jacks with little tolerance for other dogs outside her pack and was pretty much a one-person dog. She did pick me however and I adored her.
She was soft and sweet in the house and a fantastic hunter outside. She was intended to be a companion for my first Aussie and indeed for over 16 years, they were fast friends. Maggie would sit motionless at the base of a tree for hours simply waiting out a squirrel, which she almost always got in the end.
She taught me many lessons – ‘never to give up or die trying’ was her greatest message. I shared the better part of my 30’s and 40’s with her and she will always be close.
